FAQ

What certifications does your farm have to ensure organic farming practices are being followed?

Our farm is certified by the Soil Association, which is the UK's leading organic certification body. This ensures that our farming practices meet their rigorous standards for organic production, including using only natural methods and avoiding synthetic pesticides and fertilizers.

Can you provide information on the specific farming methods and techniques used on your farm?

We use a variety of sustainable farming methods and techniques, including crop rotation, cover cropping, and composting. We also employ agroforestry practices, such as integrating trees into our pastureland, to increase biodiversity and improve soil health.

What is the origin of the seeds and breeds you use on your farm?

We source our seeds and breeds from a variety of organic suppliers, and we prioritize using locally adapted varieties whenever possible. Our animals are all rare and traditional breeds that are well-suited to our local environment.

How do you ensure the quality and freshness of your produce from harvest to distribution?

We take great care to ensure that our produce is harvested at the peak of freshness, and we use refrigeration and careful packaging to maintain its quality during transportation. We also have a short supply chain, which means that our produce goes directly from our farm to local customers, ensuring maximum freshness.

Do you offer any educational programs or tours of your farm for individuals or groups interested in learning more about your organic farming practices?

Yes, we offer educational farm tours and workshops throughout the year for individuals and groups interested in learning more about our organic farming practices. We believe in the importance of educating people about sustainable agriculture and the benefits of organic food, and we welcome the opportunity to share our knowledge and experience with others.

Wow, the 3kg boneless pork shoulder and 3kg topside of beef were succulent and had a wonderful flavour. It made our 2021 Christmas Eve feast even more special. Thank you, Higher Hacknell, we will be back!

We’ve been eating Higher Hacknell’s beef and lamb for years and are still blown away by the flavour. Their sausages are outstanding too! I reckon we’ve tried most of the different meat boxes on their website, and have never been disappointed. The communication has always been spot on, and the produce arrives when they say it will. Amazing value considering the quality of their organic meat! I really can’t fault them. Fully deserving of 5 stars.

Will not be buying from this farm again. I have bought so far from 5 farms in the UK and this meat is the worse by far.....my mother paid for it it was full of gristle and awful cuts and slow cooked cheap meat yet when you cook the meat it shrinks to nothing even if you slow cook which most of it needs. Im finding it hard to believe there are not more bad reviews its absolutely awful. Stewing steak full of fat only no meat at all, shoulder of lamb hard to get one slice of meat off it....so disappointed do not recommend go elsewhere there are plenty of farms around in the UK

Do not buy from this company, their delivery process and customer service is appalling. I was informed my meat was dispatched at 1.30 pm the day before I was expecting it, I thought it was a mistake. I did not receive my meat until 28 hours later. They insist I was sent an email with time slot and a text. Neither were received and someone was in all day. The meat was left on the doorstep and no note even put through the door to say it was there. The attitude of the owners is such that I can only believe complaints are common place and 'water off a ducks back'. I have no doubt my review will be removed but I am contacting the food standards agency and I will continue to re submit my bad review. I do not complain unless I have something to complain about. Would have been no stars but the system would not accept it!

I’m full of admiration for Higher Hacknell Farm, though I confess I’m more familiar with their website and produce than with the farm itself. The whole operation breathes quality - obviously including the wonderful taste of their meat. It’s outstanding, and they’re very friendly and efficient too: they leave me with the feeling that they look after their animals as carefully as they do their customers – and it shows. If you’re up for treat, this is a really good place to shop.

Just a quick note to say 'Thank You' for the mutton which arrived last week. We had the shoulder on Sunday and it was quite delicious! The first time we have eaten it and we will be back for more without a doubt. Tried a traditional recipe to begin with but will try something a little more exotic in the future - Arabic perhaps or Indian. The packaging was very good-the chill goodies were still half frozen so the meat was cold as well. With many thanks and continue the good work. Regards, Caroline

We have had a number of deliveries from Higher Hacknell. All the meat has been of exceptional quality and taste. Nothing is too much trouble, even less popular cuts not listed on the website such as marrow bones, pork bones and pig's trotters are made available. They will also butcher some items to your specifications. Packaging and delivery also top class. A business very worthy of support.
