I bought a pair of nose rings which the salesman in the store told me could be used as earrings for small children. I asked the salesman to verify the quality of gold as I explained that my young daughter had a nickel allergy and is allergic to anything but 22kt gold. The salesman assured me that the gold was of the highest quality and was 22kt gold. When I asked for the price he quoted me £45 if I paid by card and £30 by cash. I obviously made the decision to pay by cash for the discount but the payment went straight into the salesman pocket without a receipt in exchange. He also advised me to recite specific names of Allah a number of times for added blessings and I was under the impression he was a God fearing and honest man. He went on to assure me that if there were any problems they offer a lifetime guarantee on all of their gold so there’s no need to worry. That day I put the earrings on my daughter and within 5 minutes she complained her ear lobes were itching and burning. I thought she didn’t like the earrings so I took them out for her but I noticed swelling and irritation. I thought I would test them to see, and after a day my ear lobes had swelled up and become infected. The gold colour had turned to brass. I was very surprised and disappointed with what the salesman had told me and the fact that I trusted him thinking he was God fearing. I must also mention I live in London and had only come to Birmingham that weekend for an occasion. My next trip to Birmingham was 2 months later and I made sure to go back to the shop where I had purchased the nose rings. When I got there I was greeted by another salesman so I explained my story to him but he was very defensive and dismissive. He said the man who sold me the items is in Pakistan and there’s nothing he can do about it. He said the nose rings are 9kt gold and I saw they were still being sold but it didn’t state that anywhere for the customers to know. I had specifically enquired about the quality of gold and was lied to for a quick sale. He said he wasn’t willing to take the items back because they had been worn and that having no receipt meant I had no proof. I explained the cash vs credit card transaction which most of the shops are encouraging customers for discounted prices, but the salesman held his hands up in dismissal. He was so rude and defensive that it was obvious he knew I had been scammed but he didn’t care. I was appalled that I thought this business had an Islamic ethos with its customers and the promise of a lifetime guarantee was not honoured. The insult to injury was the same nose rings continue to sit in the shop window alongside other “22kt looking” gold and customers would be none the wiser unless they have a nickel allergy like my daughter and I. This shop ought to be investigated by the authorities and stopped for lying to and misleading their customers off the back of religion. I am very disappointed and disgusted with my experience of shopping here.

Enquired about a pair of earrings, very slow to respond to messages. Rung shop and was told they couldn’t post out until following week and would send me details on how to pay the following day … I’m still waiting. Wonder how they manage to get customers if that’s how they do business
