A note of caution for anyone considering making an accommodation booking at Hencote. In January '23 we booked The Grange via English Country Cottages for a group of 11 friends to stay over New Year, paying a deposit. Last week, we were told that Hencote had cancelled our booking. Hencote then said that they would reinstate if if we paid nearly £2k more than the agreed price. It's now too late to find anywhere suitable. New year plans ruined - thanks Hencote.

We booked in for James bond casino night and taster meal for new years eve. We travelled from Ireland with tuxedos and dress and had paid 150 GBP per person and was expecting an exceptional night and experience. We arrived and staff were friendly. We were brought to our table for dinner. Bar the main course the other tasting meals were OK. When we finished our meal the casino was closed... no chance or option to use the casino tables. Dj was good but something you would see at a 80s birthday party. We feel badly stung on the cost of the night. We had left at around 2300, it was really awkward and cringey. Over all it felt like it was a night used for staff / family new years eve party. We did raise a complaint however it was brushed away and fobbed off. Would not recommend the new years eve events here.

What a difference 12 months makes! This place has rapidly gone down hill! Poor quality food, over priced (let's be fair things have gone up but not by this level!!) , just average food for ridiculous prices ! "It has a lovely view", just doesn't cut it for the poor level of food. Oh and £40 for a half decent red is also eye watering and it is only half decent. Won't be visiting again as it seems to be absorbing it's owners arrogance.

We have dined here twice recently, the last being today. Hencote is a beautifully appointed place and is spotless and does enjoy very good views over the Shropshire countryside, but you do have to pay through the nose for all of that. The Car Park was muddy (not what anyone wants) and could do with some gravel at the very least. The food was just 'okay' and expensive for what it was really, as were the wine and drinks etc, and it all took ages to arrive. The table service overall was very, very slow indeed and we had to repeatably ask for everything, even the bill!! The floor manager needs to step up and organise and motivate the staff. Come on, you can do better than this.
