This was the most appalling experience I have ever had at a salon. After reading positive reviews, I thought this was a good local salon. Maybe it was previously, but this is a place to be avoided at all costs. Malcom, the owner was slow and out of sorts. Having never been to Hedley Twist before, I thought perhaps this was just normal form him, that maybe he was just a slightly eccentric older man. He asked how I wanted my hair - I explained I wanted the same cut as I had currently with the front a bit longer than the back (just a trim), that it just needed to be cleaned up and thinned out a bit since my hair is thick and curly. He said OK. He proceeded to cut my hair bluntly, hacking off several inches - working very slowly - at the time it seemed methodical and I was hoping perhaps it was his 'process'. I should have realised sooner something wasn't right. He quickly said he was done and walked away. I asked if he was going to thin it or degrade it since it now was a short blunt bob, a far cry from what I had come in with or asked for. He then slurred 'it's fine, it's fine' and stumbled to get some hair product. I was so shocked with his demeanor and asked his assistant if he had been drinking. She was shocked by his behaviour as well and couldn't deny that he had been drinking. I then confronted Malcom who then confirmed he had been drinking. He had one beer in the 10 minutes he spent cutting my hair (so he says) but who knows how many he had before that. I left with a complete hack job of a hair cut that could have easily been achieved if I grabbed a hand mirror and a pair of scissors myself. What really was shocking was his reaction to my surprise and then said he didn't remember me asking for that cut (the same one I had when I walked in). The only saving grace was that I wasn't charged. This experience was completely unacceptable - if a hairdresser is unfit to cut hair and drunk in the middle of the day, they should cancel their appointments. Just shocking.

Quite frankly Malcolm is a genius !!!! In fact the whole team is brilliant. From the minute you walk into the door and feel the delightful ambience, the whole experience is wonderfully pampering and the best thing is, you leave with a hairstyle that flatters you and makes you look and feel fabulous. I really cannot recommend this place highly enough. You need to try it!!!!!!
