Unfortunately a really horrible experience visiting Hedgehog Cabin. Took a young hedgehog here, but the lady would not even open the door to speak to me, only shouted through a locked gate, as I had not phoned in advance she would not see me. The website makes no mention of calling first . She would not even look at the hedgehog, more interested in complaining about her lack of sleep. Completely disinterested. Told me to check for wildlife hospitals on google, ironically where I found hers. 60 minute round trip for nothing.

Has become very condescending lately with a large heap of holier than thou mixed in. I don’t know if it’s due to the amount of followers but her attitude stinks to high heaven and it is getting worse. I find her videoing the treatment of already distressed wild animals is off and stinks of looking for likes. She is also badmouthing other rescues which really shows her true colours. Most rescue have details but I see nothing on her page to say she is licenced, a certified wildlife rehabilitator or has a charity number which is a little worrying. Edit - Fair enough you don't need a license but it's very worrying that anyone can open a rescue. You didn't say if you went on the rehab course or what qualifications you might have for treating wild animals. You behave like you have got degrees and know everything about them. You believe that Springwatch is irresponsible for posting the video of the hedgehog eating the chicks, is it not irresponsible and blinkered to deny the fact that this happens and that Hedgehogs will predate chicks etc? You don't need to look hard to seen that this happens. Before you make claims that I am damaged and a troll, I suggest you have a very close look at yourself. I am not the one badmouthing other rescues and talking down to people, I am not the one passing on details about other "bad" rescues via DM . If you have a peoblem with them then report them instead of sub tweeting. I am not the only one who thinks you are rude.

As a fellow rehabber it's really important to have other rescues who you can speak to when a complex or challenging case arrives, (no matter how long you've run a rescue you never stop learning). I've contacted Pauly on numerous occasions over the years and she will always spare the time to discuss treatment options. The website is also the only place I direct people to for the best advice.

I love hedgehogs all around just generally and super-appreciate kindness wherever I see it. Here there is an abundance of both. I send a contribution whenever I can to recognize the amazing things happening at the Hedgehog Cabin

I’ve been lucky and encountered hedgehogs in my garden. I was also lucky when I found this website with its wealth of knowledge, articulately presented, when there is so much misinformation elsewhere. I’ve had occasion to reach out to the owner for advice several times and she was prompt, polite, informative, explanatory and, when I took the hedgehog to a local rescue (not this one as I am not close by) absolutely correct in her remote diagnosis. I and the hedgehog I rescued, are grateful.
