The terminal 5 transit area was not very impressive. Very uncomfortable as was the service. I am sure the areas we did not see were much better.

Our return flight (Heathrow -> Austin) had a 1,5hours delay because the train running between the terminals had a malfunction. Many airports run trains between terminals, but they run frequently. Heathrow trains do not run often and when they do, they are extremely crowded. The airport is also extremely crowded. Sometimes you have to wait because there are too many people coming from the other direction and there is no room for you to walk. For a transit flight, you have to go through security again and the security staff are extremely unfriendly and also lazy (They go and have a chat & joke around while tens of people waiting in the queue for a special hand luggage check). It is a very unpleasant experience overall.

Only flew via Terminal 2 so far. Overall quite nice but make sure you are good on your feet. We took the Elizabeth Line from Liverpool Station to Heathrow instead of the overprized Heathrow express. Saves quite some budget for a little more time to travel. No matter what train you take, walking from station to terminal feels like forever. Recommend to take the lifts, NOT the escalators. The lifts are indeed faster.
