  DO NOT INSTRUCT THIS COMPANY - ABSOLUTELY SHOCKING! UPDATE - THIS COMPANY PURPORT TO BE KCC TRADING STANDARDS APPROVED, THEY ARE NOT, I HAVE JUST SPOKEN TO KENT GOVERNMENT TRADING STANDARDS WHO CONFIRM THEY ARE NOT ONE OF THEIR MEMBERS AND ARE TAKING ACTION TO REMOVE THEIR LOGO FROM THIS WEBSITE! Joe at Hilltop Roofing was instructed to replace a flat roof at my mother's property in January. He advised the terms were £1,000 upfront and then the balance of £3,500 upon completion. Immediately the job was 'completed', the balance of monies was demanded even though I hadn't had the chance to inspect the roof as I don’t live locally. I had two emails and at least two phone calls from Joe's wife demanding the money and due to this I felt enormous pressure to make payment and did so against my better judgement. I was able to visit and inspect the property a couple of days later only to find that it was an absolutely shocking job. It had not been finished correctly at all, whilst the felt roofing was very average. the 'coping' stones that were required on the parapet wall were a joke, they look like they had been put up by a 3 year old; the 'slabs' they used were not wide enough once cut in half and were not even cut straight, and were not level, flush or cemented correctly. The whole lot needs to be removed and re-done correctly. I took photos and sent them to Joe at Hilltop roofing who completely agreed the job was totally unacceptable and he would sort it within a couple of days. It was only at this point Joe admitted that this part of the job was contracted out to someone who had never worked for him before – I don’t believe Joe had even met him, he definitely didn't know anything about the quality of this work and clearly didn’t check it either. This conversation took place back on 22nd January and over 2 months later and I am still waiting. Joe agreed the job was very poor and initially said he would return to complete the job himself, but this never happened and was the start of me chasing Joe, as to when he would return to make good the work. He has continually promised he would return but always had an excuse, either the weather or busy on other jobs. I finally got a reply from him at the beginning of February when he said he'd injured his wrist but would come on the following Monday himself. I said that I understood and as I didn't want him to damage his wrist further I would be happy for it to be left for a week or so only provided he continued to communicate with me as to when he would return. This was the last I heard from him. Despite repeated calls and texts I have heard nothing further. I rang his office number and spoke to someone called Edward who appeared to know nothing about the job and he said he would let Joe know. Yet despite this I have still heard nothing further. I was also assured from before the start of the job that I would have a 15 year warranty and receipt for the work neither of which I have not received. I have had another contractor in to inspect, who has confirmed my concerns and has said that the 'finish' is bad and will lead to water ingress into the roof or walls which will cause further damp problems internally. I have tried my best to seek resolution including asking Joe to refund part of the money so that I can pay another contractor to finish the job correctly but am now being completely ignored. My last attempt to contact him in writing was on 3rd March 2023 and I have heard nothing since. I therefore have been left with no choice but to take legal action. I will be adding photos to this review. PS Note - that there is only one recent review on here which has been left by Joe's wife! All other reviews are at least 2 years old! Leaks etc. After this company came out I decided to go with this company, very pleased with the work they carried out and pointed out a few things that made sense.
