Perfect location if you want to walk Kinder Scout and the surrounding area. Also close to the village of Hayfield which has a couple of Hotels, several good pubs and a handful of shops and tearooms. The site is set in a valley and offers hard standings and grass pitches with and without electrical hookup. There are also static tents and pods available to rent. The access road to the site is steep and narrow as you leave Hayfield and for this reason no caravans are permitted. The facilities are well used, but clean and never really busy even when the site is. One of the things the site does well is hot water; showers, washing up area and the drying room are all a pleasure to use. The site office sells ice-cream, teas and coffees and has a reasonable stock of essentials and food items. There is a small play area for younger children on the site and there is a public playground a short walk by the river towards Hayfield. The people that man the site are friendly and very helpful. The overall atmosphere is very relaxed, but professional as the site is maintained to a high standard. It is not unusual to have almost as many dogs on the site as there are humans, but the pitches are generously sized so the dog population is never a problem. Lots of wildlife to be seen with very tame ducks and rabbits as frequent visitors. The only downside is the sound of large aircraft stacking and approaching Manchester Airport. They start very early and end late. For light sleepers this could be disruptive. The site is equally good for a stopover or a longer stay as there is a lot to do and see in the area. Update: 09.06.23. The site office no longer has a shop with essentials. The nearest stores are in Hayfield - the Post Office has the better selection of items. Still a perfect location and lovely site.

Had a wonderful time staying here over the half term. The campsite is a brilliant place to come tonight away from the hustle and bustle of the town life. Plenty of historic places to go, loads of walks and much more. The pitch prices are good, staff are friendly and the facilities clean. Rooms: There are pods to hire out on site. Plenty of electric pitches available. Nearby activities: Nearby the campsite is the popular Kinder Trail as well as other trails. There are loads of historical places to visit no more than 30 minutes drive around the area. The village of Castleton has four mines to explore among one example. Safety: The camp site requires a code to access the site and gets locked over night. Walkability: The location of the campsite is situated at the top of Hayfield and I would recommend driving their. Food & drinks: There are no shops on site, however, there are plenty of pubs, cafes, shops etc in town. An Aldi and Tesco are about a 5 minute drive.
