Me and my partner visited this shop and were absolutely blown away with how beautiful it is. The gentleman in the shop was absolutely wonderful and helped us navigate the expansive (and very impressive) collection of books, and we purchased several! Me and my partner agreed that this is the best bookshop we’ve ever visited, and are very excited to return. I cannot recommend this shop highly enough, it’s a work of art

The owner was pretentious and rude when we visited to buy a gift for a friend. We asked to take a photo of one of the £120 books we were considering purchasing and he refused. Shouldn’t be in business.

A proper old fashioned book shop. I could spend many happy hours in here (not to mention a shed load of money). A vast choice of books and really friendly owners. Thoroughly recommend a visit if you’re in the area.

The best book store me and my partner have ever seen! The gentleman in the shop is absolutely wonderful, I could’ve stayed in the shop and chatted to him all day! He’s very warm and friendly, and extremely knowledgeable - he will help you find the perfect book. The collection of historic books in the shop is very impressive and there’s something for everyone. It reminded me of something out of a film, it’s like stepping back in time. It’s incredible and has a real traditional beauty to it; I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The shop is a real hidden treasure and has become my new favourite shop, I’m looking forward to returning soon! Thank you to the kind gentleman for all of his help, we love the books we bought from you!

I called in today and must say It was one of the best experiences in an antiquarian bookstore I have ever had. Whilst there is joy in digging through stacks and stack of books, to come across an unexpected gem. There is also joy to be found in a well organised and curated collection. That is what you find in Hawkridge Books. The gentleman behind the counter welcomed me in a friendly manner, asking if I had any particular areas of interest. I said I was mostly browsing, but there were a few sections I would be particularly interested in seeing. He directed me to these, and left me to browse. I selected two from a vast collection of Folio Society books, which were very well priced. After making my purchase, but before leaving we had a chat about the business, the books I had chosen, and other bookstores in the area. (Sedbergh was the name of the town neither of us could remember) Whilst I was in the store a few other customers came in who all received the same standard of greeting. And we're directed towards their area of interest. One person had quite a specific request for a book on rock climbing, which was quickly found. This is not Waterstones, or WHSmith. This is a store of fine and antiquarian books, with service and knowledgeable staff to match. A rarity in modern times. Long may it continue.

Hands down the most amazing second hand book store I have ever been in. The gentleman was extremely friendly and I was blown away with the collection. This book store needs a small cafe in it because I could stay in there all day. Would happily travel further than Manchester to get to this store.

They were very helpful over the phone in answering my questions about a particular copy of a book, and then extremely quick in getting it to me. I'd forgotten how nice it was to talk to a real bookseller, and have personal service.
