I loved this old place - yes it's simple one bed accommodations. That's what I wanted for my trip - no extra expenses. Certainly, having communal bathrooms, disinfectant smell in the stairwell and idiosyncratic building entrance could turn-off those who are expecting posh, but not me. Just make sure you get the gate code so you can get in and out. The history of the place is interesting: built in the 1600s, a manor, then a hospital in WWI, a convent, then a boys school. Breakfasts are not spectacular, but sufficient. Village of Harborne is charming, some nice walks past the Harborne cricket fields. I don't care what the nay-sayers say, I liked it for what it is.

Great place for a party I attended a birthday party for one of my daughters friends at the hall. The kids all played games in the gardens, followed by games in one of the venues rooms. To my surprise one of the rooms held a full size bouncy castle, which was only possible due to it's high ceiling. I didn't stay in the accommodation but saw a couple of the rooms, which looked fair and surprising cheep. At first I went to the wrong gate by mistake, but once I'd worked out I was trying to get into someone's house not the hall I was able to go to the right gate which opened as I drove up to it. I would recommend this as a good place to stay if you are after budget accommodation. The rooms are just big enough to sleep in, but you would need to book one of the apartments if you wanted to spend time in your room or had a family. The bar is a nice place to sit if you are in one of the smaller rooms, and not something you would get in a travel lodge. Over all I was very happy with the day. Just make sure you read the signs on the gates.

Arrived at 9pm. Had a big problem trying to get into the car park due to the gates needing a code. The room was filthy with old pop bottles and crisp packets littered around the room. The carpet was disgusting, the paintwork flaking and stained, and the (separate) shower block was freezing cold. Our company will not use this again!
