Only used for a quick drink, but £11.90 for one pint of lager and a half of shandy is very disappointing. Food & drinks: Can't believe I was charged £2.40 for a splash of lemonade in a lager.

Barely warm brunch served by grumpy, unsmiling staff. Not the best! I had this meal on a bank holiday and arrived around 11:00 am, it was not busy. We chose are own table and had to find out own menus as these were not provided at the table. The tables were not numbered, so we assumed that you waited to order. This was not the case and we had to go the service station/area to be served. The process was easy enough but the waitress didn't listen to the order (namely the drinks) nor did she ask where we were seated. The drinks arrived, after a short wait, but it was not entirely correct. Easily remedied but unnecessary. Food arrived but was underwhelming except for the excellently cooked eggs! Food was not hot, in fact at best was tepid. That said, it was edible and tasty. By the time we left the premises had filled up to what looked like was going to be a busy lunch service. There were only two people serving at the time and it was evident from their demeanor that this had either been a long day already or it was about to turn into one? I don't know if they were under staffed but there seemed little effort in making your guests feel welcome. Whatever the excuse might be, sullen faces with a poor and unwelcoming service is unacceptable and needs to be addressed. This with barely warm food adds up to a non return from me any time soon.

The hotel its self was really lovely. It has a very relaxed feel with everything you could need for a lovely stay. Its on a lovely little village with nice independent shops. The room was full of charm with coffee machine tea making facilities, toiletries, games and books. Also very clean. The one and only thing that let this hotel down was the breakfast. Both mornings the services and the food was shocking. 1st morning it took wellover 40 minutes to come out. The bacon was dry hard and not edible at all. I ordered a full English which was the most basic version of a full breakfast. 2nd Morning. The breakfast came out alot quicker. However, the scrambled eggs were very cold and the bacon hard and dried up again. I returned the breakfast this time as it wasn't good enough. It was clearly put in the microwave minus the beans which were in a metal pot. The bacon by this time was completely ruined. When returned to me 10minutes last the beans were missing. I asked for the beans which after another 5 minutes. Completely pointless warming it up. Honestly the worst breakfast I've ever had at a hotel. I did mention this to the waitress but nothing was Said. Serious improvements need to be made to make this the perfect hotel. One other point, room 31 is directly opposite the cleaners office and we were woken up both mornings at around 7am to very loud chatting from the staff as they met in that room with door open discussing their life's and general gossip. I feel it would be more respectful especially on a sat and Sunday to be quieter until around 9am. As check out isn't until 11am. Overall the hotel was very good and we would visit again but please please sort the breakfast out.
