  We were using template contracts to manage our commercial relationships for our augmented reality and virtual reality projects. We weren’t sure the templates had our backs and were right for the business. It was only a matter of time before we ended up in a couple of sticky situations, and knew we needed something more robust. We approached Hall Ellis because they are tech subject matter experts. They produced excellent new contracts which are structured in a way which make sense to us and what we do, which can often include some unique situations. They filled the gaps and holes in the templates to better protect the business. We have built-in options to handle the different requirements on projects without the legalese. We’re clear on what they mean and are easy to prepare. Our projects are complicated, but the contracts aren’t. The business is better protected with purpose-built specialised IT contracts. We have peace of mind that we have the right contracts for the business.

  I recently engaged Hall Ellis Solicitors to look over a contract I had been asked to sign to take up what looked to be a potentially lucrative business opportunity. This was my first experience dealing with the legalities of a contract. Leigh took me to areas of concern in the contract and explained them in plain, understandable English what I needed to know. That included provisions that didn’t cause me much concern when I read them, but were important to where I wanted to get to. He explained the bombs in it too and what they would mean to me once I signed it. That ended up changing my opinion of the opportunity. I was under severe time pressure. He was able to turn it around in quick time. It was a brilliant experience throughout – he told me before we started what would be involved, what it would cost and timing of delivery.   For me legal stuff is a bit scary, dry and boring. These guys are approachable and make the legal matters bearable, even bringing some humour to proceedings. I've worked with them on a number of IT disputes; they are very professional & the advice is spot on. Often disputes just dissolve. When our disputes have escalated, I know our backs are covered - I know we're not taking a toothpick to a gunfight. After they advise us on the approach, we can get on with what we do & don't give the dispute much more thought. I'm not concerened about a rear-guard action. They just get intellectual property in the tech arena, I would recommend them at the drop of a hat.

  Our business name and reputation were getting trashed by a new business just down the road from us. They started up, and were using our name to get profit. We were receiving calls intended for him, and he must have been receiving calls meant for us. Our customers were going to his place after booking with us. By the time they arrived with us they were quite angry. It was hurting our reputation, losing us money and we were getting storms of abuse in social media. It wasn’t our fault, but it was our problem. We had to fix it to stop our business name getting trashed by their bad behaviour. He talked about doing a settlement. But he would say one thing and do another. We couldn’t trust what he said. He didn’t want to listen and didn’t give us a choice. It was frustrating. We had to go to court to stop it. We were nervous about taking things to court, but we had to. We had no choice. We needed to do it. It was either him or us. How were we going to pay our staff if he kept doing what he was doing? Who would we have to let go? If it kept going, there might be no business to play for. We found Hall Ellis solicitors honest, efficient and to the point. They don’t mess around. They know what they’re doing. When we had doubts about what they said had to happen, they helped us understand the procedures and why it has to be done. The costs were higher than what we would have liked, but that’s how these things are. We got the result and don’t have to think about where the business would be now if we’d not stopped what we think was dishonest behaviour by the other business. Our business name is secure.   We’ve used solicitors before. We’ve found that they’re always hard to get hold of and take ages to respond to queries and return calls.  If they do at all. In a dispute we had, Hall Ellis Solicitors were always available. Always. When we didn’t catch them when we called, they responded same day.  The answers to our questions didn’t drag out over days with bits here and bits there.  Their consolidated approach helped us move our thinking along quickly so that we could decide what to do. The clear communication also helped us. They explained the intellectual property legal claims process in our terms, without the jargon and baffling cryptic talk.  We grasped the way we wanted to do something might not be the best approach. We realised that they weren’t telling us to take a particular approach because it suited them.  They explained why their tactics might be better to get the same outcome. With that, we ended up with better shot at getting the result with less expense. We could also tell them what to do knowing what the outcomes could be. They were on the lookout for us, tuned into our interests and not just telling stuff that would have made them money. That developed into a situation where we trusted what they said. We were in control of what was happening and got the result we wanted. No qualms recommending them.

  A business local to us started using our brand. Customers booked at our venue and started going to their venue. Customers were very upset when they lost their bookings when they arrived late to us. Then we received complaints on social media and emails from people thinking our business was their business. It wasn’t. By using our trading name, they were causing all sorts of confusion and passing themselves off as us. We asked them to stop. They refused to listen.   We needed a technology contract lawyer and ip solicitor to help with a customer that was passing off our work as their own to their customers. The legal advice we got from Hall Ellis solicitors changed all that. We recovered our legal position, then improved on it. We ended up 3 steps ahead of them. We protected the business and shutdown their options to screw us. After that episode, we asked them to prepare our IT contracts to avoid those situations in the future. The tech contracts set the focus and framework for us to approach negotiations with confidence. We get to see what our counterpart in the negotiations is like. Their responses tell us what they’ll be like to work with. Are they high risk and might try to rip us off , do they know exactly what they are getting? We can counter that at an early stage. We spend a fifth of the time negotiating contracts than before we started using the contracts they made for us and reduced the risk of trouble down the road.

  We needed the formal legal documents to protect our ecommerce agency business – for our business partners and for us. I didn’t have the foggiest idea about commercial law at the time. I knew I couldn’t do it myself. I could try, but the time it would have taken would have been too much and dragged out when I could take on our first customer. It takes us no more than 60 minutes to prepare our contracts for high value new business. They save the worry that the business is properly protected. We had a really good experience with the solicitors. The advice we got was straight to the point. I got what I needed to hear, rather than what I wanted to hear.   I contacted Hall Ellis Solicitors regarding the implementation of a Contract which was to formalize a set of separate agreements between two parties . After explaining the situation and requirements, Hall Ellis were able to very quickly produce an initial draft, and minimize the time and costs for the case, and reduced the number of iterations needed to finalize the Contract. Hall Ellis were happy to accommodate both written and verbal communication, and with this level of cooperation and interaction, were able to produce a finalized Contract which accorded to requirements, but also incurred minimal latency. I would highly recommend their professionalism for the management of any such legal matters.

  Our software company consulted Hall Ellis to help us deal with a complex contractual situation on a project. In short, we were subcontracted to build a next-gen 3D app for tourists at a World Heritage site. Things started pretty well. Then the end client became more demanding. Our client started promising things to the end client that weren’t technically possible. They started saying that we were in breach of contract here, there and everywhere. The conversation descended into nonsense. Our client blamed us in conversations with the end client when the requirements were not met. We contacted Hall Ellis to tell us what our position was, help us push back to the client and to undermine what our client was alleging.
