Didn't stay at the hotel but went for a Harry Potter themed afternoon tea. The staff were friendly and the event was cute with nice decorations. We got our afternoon tea very quickly, and they had a projector playing the trailers, which was a nice touch. Would be nice to serve maybe a choice of a few different teas or coffees, but it was nice regardless. Would visit again to try the other themed events.

My wife and I attended the hotel for a party and decided to stay for the night too, as we were travelling to the venue. Our room, located in the annex, cost £130 which included breakfast. There is a cheaper option down the road for £70, but we fancied a treat as the hotel looks luxurious on the website. The hotel is a traditional building with modern additions, and is well kept and in good order. The reception and waiting on staff are helpful and hard working, there just doesn't seem to be many of them within the hotel. Our room, room 17, was modern and easy to access on the ground floor. We had to visit reception again, as there were no toiletries in our bathroom. We also asked for some more tea bags, as we were only given two. There was an unusual smell in our room, which we're not sure was the cleaning products used, or old cigarette smoke. We put it down to cleaning products as there are smoke detectors in the room, but it was an unpleasant odour, which we reported on check out. Bar prices are pretty decent for a hotel, charges were £5 for a beer and a single gin and tonic is about £7. And getting served was relatively easy, at the party, as there were 2 bar staff on. Ironing boards and irons are available via reception, it took 3 attempts as it was unattended on my first and second visits, The rooms come with tea and coffee, one pack of biscuits and free, good speed WiFi. There was a server at the breakfast buffet, but I had to go back to ask for tea, as there was noone available to seat us, or ask if we needed anything. My tea was then brought to me, with no milk, so I had to pour myself a glass from the cereal station. As we'd looked after ourselves for breakfast, I didn't get asked about if I wanted toast, so didn't get any, which is a shame. It was busy in the main dining hall for breakfast and there only seemed to be one member of staff on, who was staffing the breakfast buffet. You can check in from 2pm and check out is 11 am which is great. This hotel is not far from getting an overall 5 star rating from me. I travel to hotels of this grade and charge rate regularly with work, and the only time I usually pop to reception is to check in, and check out. There were so many missed details, and chasing up toiletries/tea/breakfast service/ironing boards etc that took away from the experience we were expecting for £130 per night.
