Horrified at the low valuation of jewellery !! 3.2ct platinum solitaire diamond ring… yes J in colour but £1.750???????? After being asked to pop in for the appraisal expected to be offered a waiting space with a coffee but just a glass covered counter that I actually struggled to hear what Ben was saying.. but I heard that valuation!!! A mulberry Bayswater in excellent condition… £100! You must be truly desperate to accept prices like that so BEWARE!

I recently applied for a loan with the Manchester branch of Prestige pawnbroker’s. I had several pieces to pawn against including, 4 of Rolex, 1 Omega, 1 Cartier watches and 3 sets of first edition coins. The sum I wanted to borrow was £25k, the value of my items came to approximately £90k. I was given the short term loan for the £25k but the initial payment of £1300 with interest for one month came to £2500. I asked them to take a look at this schedule as it was too expensive, the manager came back with another figure which was still way to high £2300 for the first month. They also did not have an XRF machine at branch and wanted to test the coin using acid. These coins are first addition proof coins and would have been devalued using this destructive process. The application would have also been delayed due to the valuation process of the gold coins, meaning that the funds potentially would not have reached my account for a further 48 hours. I decided to go to my local pawnbroker Miltons in Liverpool. They took one look at my 4 off Rolex watches and gave me my loan instantly, even without using my gold coin collections. The cost of this short term loan was £1100 per month on £25k with no compound or additional interest.
