We didn’t stay here but we did dine in the pub restaurant, we came for the history and expected the food to be just ok but the pie was actually very good, so full of beef, really tasty and a nice big portion. The atmosphere of the pub is great too, everything you want the birthplace of Guy Fawkes to be, really enjoyed it. Nearby activities: Right next to York Minster and just off the Shambles, lovely location.

It was a ladies weekend away. Neither of us had stopped at the Guy Fawkes inn before and we were not disappointed. I booked the hotel and I have mobility issues and like an idiot did not take into consideration that lifts had not been invented in the 16th Century. There was no need to worry the reception staff carried our luggage to our room when we arrived and brought it back down when we were leaving. The breakfast we excellent, The bed was very comfortable, The bathroom was spotless . We had dinner in the restaurant twice during our 4 night stay and that also was excellent. The hotel is close to everything we wanted to do and see. One day we went on the guided tour which is arranged by the hotel. Our tour guide David Haw, was very informative , funny and even introduced us to people like a street artist , the people who do the owl and falcon display in the museum gardens a wonderful day was had by all. I will be returning to the hotel on our next trip to York without a doubt.

On first arrival it wasn't made very clear where we check in so it was all a bit strange. Then we go to find our room and it's right beside the courtyard full of people, incredibly awkward and you have to immediately close the curtains otherwise you're making eye contact with complete strangers. The room was... okay. Beautiful furniture that definitely deserves more love and attention. Cracked tiles, dust everywhere, cracked toilet seat, wonky paintings, chips of paint missing from the wall, mould in the shower. Just no attention to detail at all. The bath was probably the only redeeming factor of the entire stay. The noise in the courtyard quietened down eventually but then there was what sounded like an extractor fan going on pretty much all night, extremely loud and disturbing. From 5am in the morning there was constant movement upstairs, back and forth all morning. You truly do not get a moment of silence in this place. The point is to sleep and you can't even do that... But none of this compared to the sight we had in the morning. A swarm of ants had taken over the room and i mean hundreds upon hundreds of ants everywhere. There was so many all over the bedside cabinet that it looked like it was physically moving. They were spanning the entirety of the floor, absolutely disgusting. We wanted a nice morning in bed but instead had to rush out because of the sight. How does that even happen? We refused to tidy the bed as we usually would because there were ants literally everywhere. We asked to speak to management and of course they weren't there, staff just wanted us gone as quick as possible and gave us a lousy business card. We were told to email and they'd get back to us. We made numerous attempts to make contact but were ignored for weeks as they didn't want to admit fault. All that was offered a discount for our next stay which as you can imagine will definitely not be happening. Avoid, avoid, avoid!!!!!
