I've been here with my budgies several times over the years and I wouldn't take my birds anywhere else. I've always found the whole team to be extremely knowledgeable, experienced and kind, from the front of house team to the vets and nurses. Our most recent experience was a sad one, as unfortunately my gorgeous boy was too poorly to recover, but Lucia the vet gave me all the information, space and time I needed to make the decision to say goodbye to Georgie. She also brought some millet so that I could give him a final treat, and allowed me plenty of time to sit with him for a last cuddle. Georgie and I were both treated with professionalism and compassion from his first visit to his last.

A fantastic practice. We sadly lost our snake Negan recently but the care and professionalism shown by everyone we met was second to none. They supported and guided us through treatments we had to administer at home and were always available when we needed them. Although it wasn't the outcome we hoped for, we are very grateful for everything done for us and Negan. We would recommend Great Western Exotics to anyone.

We took our two pets parrots in today for their first checkup and the service was excellent! Helen and Hayley kept us updated and were really helpful when one of Otto's tests needed further investigation. I was a bit nervous about it all but all my questions were met with very friendly and helpful answers. We're coming back in two weeks to see if Otto's new medication works! Thanks again, Great Western Exotics team.

Came in today with a very poorly snake. We were treated amazingly and the care they provided was 100% what we could of asked for. Unfortunately the snake had to be put to sleep but I am thankful that we chose this vets practice. Thankyou for everything.

I had my two male guinea pigs neutered by Ashton at Great Western Exotics. I was very happy with the service I received! Ashton fully explained the procedure and I really felt she cared about my piggies which made me feel very confident leaving them in her hands. She did a fantastic job operating on them, it's now a week post op and my boys have recovered amazingly, you wouldn't even be able to tell they had surgery!

I am writing this review so others can rely on their rights and insist on better care for their animals if they choose to use this surgery. We took our parrot in today and this is very much a mixed review. I am writing this review as a very public request to take much better measures regarding your covid procedures, which at present are highly inadequate. The surgeon herself was very helpful, but the handover at the end was atrocious. The surgery were aware that we are inexperienced avian owners, and that I was nervous about the parrot undergoing general anaestethic. They put our minds at ease about this and I am grateful for that. However, given that the bird had undergone her first procedure at age 46, combined with our nervousness and inexperience, the end result was that the bird was literally dumped on the table outside in the rain by the nurse, who darted straight back inside. This is completely unacceptable. On any view. And the vetinary surgeon rightly and kindly apologised for this. The questions I have are these: 1. as a frontline service, why is the vets the ONLY frontline service to ban ALL pet owners from coming inside? To say this is company policy is shameful. You could very easily offer to charge us extra for PPE and accompany our vets, as other frontline services do, such as dentists, opticians etc. This company policy is not well thought out and seprates owners and pets needlessly, and in fact smacks of convenience to the company under cover of covid. 2. If you are going to make us all stand outside with cages, where you take possession of the animals, why on earth can't you put a gazebo outside, so that your staff and customers and animals do not have to stand outside in the rain for the handover process? 3. Can you overhaul your inadequate handover process. It is unacceptable to leave an animal on the table and run back inside because of the cold and the rain. A phonecall 20 minutes beforehand is insufficient, and is markedly different to handover. An acceptable handover would be - and it pains me to be having to point this out to you - 'Here is your parrot. Here is your medication - this is how long to take it for/how to administer it - these are red flag symptoms to look out for - here is our number if you have any questions' I will revise this review once these issues have been addressed.
