This is a great sized country park just outside Braintree Town and within easy reach from most routes around. There is a carpark on site, but this is a tad pricey, in my opinion, for a dirt patch. There is a fishing lake within the centre and a good place for little ones to feed the ducks (with the appropriate food). There are several play areas for children dotted around. However, these are well past their glory days and more than a bit tired. The large grass areas are perfect for a picnic or a kick about alike. The discovery centre is nearest the car park and here you can also get a drink and a bite to eat. If I had to comment on my biggest criticism, it would be the complete lack of litter bins. Whilst most people would take theirs home with them as the park signage requests, however, it only takes a few to discard theirs, ruining the beauty of the place. In summing up, yes, I'd recommend this place to take the kids, have a romantic stroll as a couple, or meet up as a group for a picnic, etc. I'd also recommend using Tesco's car park for 3 hours of free parking or to park on the Notley Estate safely and with consideration for the residents there.

Perfect size park with different kinds of playgrounds spread across the whole park which makes the experience even more fun for the kids. It's not 5 stars because the cafe was closed during the bank holiday, sky rope was also closed and the football pitches were only available after paying quite expensive fees. Car park fees were not cheap but reasonable, especially if you plan to stay more than 4 hours. Worth the visit.
