    We took our 10 year old for the light year academy. Despite the cloud we had a great (if late) night. The drive up a 2 mile forest track is interesting and then you arrive and the views are stunning. You are asked to wait in your car until collected by the staff. They then provide fun and really interesting short lectures. Stargazing was off because of the cloud but we all learned loads and the staff were the most enthusiastic and friendly bunch. A great set of ambassadors for astronomy! The bottle rocket firing at the end was great fun. Be prepared to be cool, as the only heating on site are the log burners in the lecture rooms. There is a small gift shop offering souvenirs and warm drinks. Toilets are composting so make sure you don’t lose a grip of your phone or keys as retrieving them would not be fun at all!
