Sadly, it seems Trade Unions are very selective in which members they support. The GMB is very happy to take your cash, but ignore you, when you are vulnerable and in need of support. It is not alone in its lack of care, particularly when it comes to public sector employment abuse. They'll happily sacrifice their members, to ingratiate themselves with their mates who run Local Authorities, especially Labour Party-controlled ones. It is perhaps better to use No Win No Fee solicitors, who are likely to fight for you. Disappointed, is too nice a word, to use to describe these heartless jokers.

Go with Unison or alternative or be disappointed My employer suspended me due to an anonymous complaint that was submitted five years ago. I was suspended for 3 and a half months (still suspended) and during this time I was diagnosed as suicidal, quit my masters in university (leaving me 17k in debt) and put under primary mental health care. I contacted my rep (Mick - Southern region) and asked if he could contact my employer and ask what was going on as I felt I was being ignored. His advice was to stay at home and enjoy the pay. Contact him when I am given a disciplinary date. I have since submitted a grievance against my employer with no input from GMB so have no idea whether it is any good or correct format. I can never get through to the Rochester office. I have to wait days for a response to my voicemails. I have called a central number for GMB and asked ‘what is my £15 a month going toward, because I am not receiving nothing’ - I have been told by the member on the phone that the treatment isn’t right. Mick called me today and he couldn’t give an answer when I asked what he had done for me in 4 months. When I told him I was submitting this review he warned me about using his name like a threat. Do GMB record their calls? My guess is no. I attended the initial meeting with my employer alone with no rep support back in May 2022. My request for rep to contact my employer on my behalf was refused and this morning I submitted a grievance with no guidance or support. I still remain suspended. I have cancelled my direct debit to GMB today. I go back to my original statement at the top of this review. Go with an alternative. Pay extra if need be for your own peace of mind.
