If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful stop on a long journey then this is certainly not the place for you. It is a sister services to the one in Westmorland on the M6 which is also always packed. I can understand the 5☆ reviews on here, and why it is so crowded as there is a large farmshop on site which obviously attracts shoppers. The car parks are very large to cater for them all. This sells all manner of things. There is a butcher's, cheese counter, a counter selling ready made meals, pies, marinated meats etc, an ice cream counter, a large wine shop and lots of stalls selling speciality goods such as oils, drinks, chocolates. The cafe area itself is not as large as some services but is comfortable and pleasant. However the service counters are not always kept well stocked and service can be slow. There is a separate counter for uick Takeaways which we ended up using then taking into the cafe area. At the front of the services there are wooden covered tables where you can have your own snacks, or you have a pet dog or simply need to smoke. Outside the cafe is a nice patio area overlooking a lake and the surrounding countryside. In all, not the place for us and on our next journey we found a lovely small service area further north which was much quieter and with attentive staff.

Always stop at Gloucester Services en route to the south as it’s around the half way mark for us! The building is quite low key, ample parking and a stunning little pond out back (currently full of yellow pond iris) and a little maze. Loads of clean toilets and plenty of seating areas and really beautiful attention to decor and detail. However, today whilst queuing we were moved down to the next member of staff, who disappeared for a short while leaving us stood waiting for quite a substantial time. Then we ordered our hot food, and unfortunately by the time we paid for our already plated food and ordered our drinks (in that order) our baps were cold. Since they have a computerised screen with your order on anyway, it would make more sense to do this the other way around so you are not standing around waiting for your drinks to be made while your food goes cold at the till! I will continue to keep using Gloucester Services because I really like these services in particular, but maybe this is something they can look into in the future - which will also help staff to keep on top of customers ☺️
