Very disappointed to see that the same reasons that made me stop tennis years ago still hold. I went to this club with enthusiasm to start training again and meet people who share the same interests. I was invited to drop by on a Saturday without much information. I didn't know what to wear or what to expect. I was first criticised for not wearing tennis shoes (but no one told me I'd be playing as I just inquired about prices and times), then presented to a coach (friendly guy, to be fair) who exchanged a few balls for 10-15 minutes. I hadn't played in years so I didn't expect to play competition, and it wasn't my goal. I was lectured about how much of a level one needs to reach before being allowed in as a member. I was then told about an Improvers group, which I said I'd be happy to join, as my pretention was just TO HAVE FUN WHILST PLAYING SERIOUSLY. I had forgotten that London just doesn't know anything about fun, it's all competition or snobbishness. A month went by and no one ever called me. If you live in the area, you're better off buddying up with someone off the internet and renting out public courts on Parliament Hill, or travelling further out of the city to find tennis communities which aren't obsessed with their own self worth and haven't forgotten that sport is about fun, too.
