I also visited the school recently and my experience was very different. Playground gates were monitored at all times and security throughout the school was reassuring. I don't care what colour a teacher's hair is - I'm concerned about how good they are at their job! And as for results - look at the secondary schools they go onto - amazing and impressive!

Visited Glendower as part of my daughter's school assessment and I was let down by a couple of things: 1. Access and gate security: when I visited the school the children were playing in a tiny little yard separated from two main streets by an unlocked gate with no controlled access or gate security. The school therefore has no lockdown procedure and will need to invest in technology and staff training to address this issue. 2. Teachers professional look: I have not seen any piercing or visible tattoos on teachers, however, one teacher had purple hair which is not professional for a private school given the students are required to adhere to a dress code. 3. The school building: the school interior is run down and needs renovation. I have not commented on the school academic standing since Glendower is a preparatory school and hence the school does not have a GCSE score achievement level. The above observations are based on comparing the several private schools I have visited in central London. I understand the school has a new principal so I hope she will address some of these matters.

The school was started in 1895 by Miss Lloyd and Miss Cornwall at 103A Fulham Road. At that point the school, known as the Cornwall and Lloyd School, shared premises with Dunn and Co the hatters and The Sports Motor Car Co. At some point between 1902 and 1918, the school moved to 5 Glendower Road and changed its name to Glendower School. After 2 years in Glendower Road, the school relocated once more, this time to 25 - 27 Cromwell Road. The school remained at this site from 1920 until 1939 when the Second World War forced an evacuation to Devon. Glendower moved into 87 Queen’s Gate in 1947 where it has remained with some extension and expansion until the present day.
