    Giant aftercare is abysmal. I purchased a bike in Swansea Giant store which is presumably a franchise run by Tredz (same people who run Halfords) The aftercare service is provided by Tredz and you don't interact directly with Giant. My Giant bike frame cracked on a seatstay weld (same place on a second frame!) and is covered under lifetime warranty It has so far taken over 3 and a half months to sort out a frame replacement under warranty. I still don't have my bike back It took weeks and a 106 mile trip to store simply to agree to replacement. Then more weeks for the very different frame to be offered, arrive at Tredz, the seatpost then didn't fit, a game of hot potato between Tredz and Giant later over who'd provide a seatpost that further delayed things. After such a long time I'm willing to have the bike back in any state, but Tredz refuse to give it back until QC'd. More waiting. Their processing methodology seems to be that if something is wrong or needs to be ordered, no work is done and it goes to the back of the backlog again, so the result is exponential delays. In summary Giant isn't great, but add on the franchise's performance and you get a truly abysmal experience.

    Bike fitting highly recommended In the past I've been sceptical about bite fitting, as it seemed an expensive option unless you really take cycling very seriously. However, on picking up a lower back strain after several long distance rides, I gave it a go at Giant Shoreham. My bike fit turned out to be already pretty close in terms of saddle height and angle, but the major suggested change from the fitting was to shorten my bike's stem by 2cm, which is a lot when you think that frame sizes vary by just this amount (e.g. 53-55-57-59 com frames). I got a like-for-like stem for my particular Giant model, which was only about £20. I also followed the recommendation to rotate the angle of the bars considerably from where I had it originally. I have to say the bike felt so much more “right” and comfortable on a long ride, with hands now resting comfortably on the brake hoods without stretching. I presume I'm also getting the efficiency/power benefits - I did a 72 mile ride easily first time out - but the main thing for me was injury prevention and comfort. Happy with both - I'd say if you're buying an expensive bike, do this too. It's worth it. Kenny
