This memorial statue stands in tribute to the Polish soldier and statesman, General Wladyslaw Sikorski. He was the first prime minister of the Polish government in Exile and supreme commander of the Polish forces in the West, during the Second World War. So long as he lived, he gave Poles hope that they would be free of German and Soviet occupiers. Sadly he died in 1943 and no other Polish commander retain the same prestige. The statue is located on New Cavendish Street where the Polish Embassy stands. The statue is bronze, slightly larger than life-size, standing atop a stone plinth. The statue shows Sikorski in his generals uniform with his arms and hands down by his sides, not quite at attention. His face is slightly turned to the east, looking at his beloved Poland.
