A lovely place to see how the mill worked and what it used to be used for. Most of if was on ground floor and is easy to access. The was a gallery on the upper floor about a brilliant local artist and photographer.

This is the only part of the Abbey that was relatively unscathed after the Dissolution (probably because it could be used as a source of income). The building is relatively intact but it does not mill flour any more and now has spaces for history and education. When I visited, it is clear to see why it was placed where it was with the force of the river.

As part of the Fountains estate a must see when visiting the abbey. The mill is the only 22 th century cistercian corn mill in the uk and was built as the monastic watermill. There's three floors to explore with lift access between. See how they ground corn on the replica grinders with plenty of information around. Do check out the water wheel and the loft. Round the back there's a pleasant walk to fountains hall and nearby toilets and cafe. Do not miss. If you have your dog with you their not allowed in but their is a path round the mill to the hall.
