Writing this in the hope that it is actually actioned in the future as a vague email saying the organisers will be told is not really positive action until anything changes. I’m sorry to have found out that Founders Forum has not thought to budget to pay micro businesses a basic rate for their products. Most businesses of Founders Forum size would not consider it unreasonable to do so. I started my business while I had a sleep disorder that made working for anyone else impossible so providing free products to your guests is the very definition of exploitation. 120 products would require me to stop working on my regular orders that pay my wage which I have been unable to increase for nearly two years due to the effects of the pandemic. The other businesses that have been mentioned to me as 'gifting' are far bigger and obviously won’t be affected the same way as a small business by providing such ‘gifts’. I hope none of your guests claim to support small businesses or ethical practices as by attending and accepting these gift bags they would be going against their beliefs. It seems to go against Founders Forum’s own belief in “promoting avenues to create a positive impact on society”. ‘Partner’ implies an equal exchange but ‘exposure’ at these kind of events is never equal to the value of being able to pay rent to a micro business and only serves to further highlight the massive inequality so many small business today face and I’d hope at least some of your “distinguished group” would be appalled that this is something Founders Forum would even consider asking of a small business.
