I contacted Lee at Fort Doors for a replacement garage door as my old one was no longer fit for purpose. I provided the measurements and Lee was really quick in coming back with a price to supply and fit. I only had to wait 2 weeks after confirming my order. On the day I was visited by Jack and Mark, who did a superb job with the installation, giving me a full demo of how to use the door. I would not hesitate on recommending this company if you need a garage door.

I purchased a brand new home fitted with a Fort Door ie Wessex Door but from day 1 I was having issues. A major issue is that you can not actually lock the door as the lock and latches have been disengaged as a motor has been added. Most of the big garage door manufacturers supply delatching kits so you can make the door more secure and they will have a minimum 2 point locking mechanism as required by most insurers as a minimum requirement. But Wessex Doors you can not fit these delatching kits on to GRP doors and have been informed if I was to fit a delatching kit then I would void the warranty! Very helpful. So a 14ft door is held closed by a strip of metal just a few millimeters thick in the top centre of the door, nothing at either bottom or top corners. I also reported that the 14ft door was bowed and would not stay up. The installer came and adjusted the door & frame and stated that the frame was bent, But just added more springs. The motor installed on the door kept getting error messages and some times did not open or close the door fully and would stop half way, along with manually opening the door it would not stay up and came hurtling back down, narrowly missing my head. Again the installer came and adjusted the door and added more springs, maxed out now with springs! But yet again more errors on the motor and eventually it packed in. The installer eventually replaced the motor and stated that a warranty claim was needed to get a replacement door. I made the house builder and installer aware that I would need the door to be safe & lockable and secure but was informed that a like for like replacement was my only option. The way the door falls when you move it makes it non compliant, and in my opinion a safety critical issue. The standard BSEN13241-1 states that in the event of single component failure (the drive unit for example) the door should either exert a static weight of less than 20kg, or be prevented from falling more than 300mm, even when placed into manual. My door clearly does not achieve this. The CE label attached to the door is non compliant with either the Construction Product Regulations or Machinery Directive as neither are mentioned – it states the relevant standard but neither Regulation or Directive. I should have been provided with the following documentation to comply with the regulations, but was not. Operation and Maintenance Manual For Door Machinery Directive Declaration of Conformity Declaration of Performance (Construction Products Regulations) Without this documentation the door is non compliant with the regulations, however the safety of the door overrides all of this and needs to be rectified urgently. So the bowed door is being replaced with another Wessex Door that is unlockable. In my opinion these doors are not fit for purpose.

I purchased a new garage door from garagedoorsonline.co.uk on the 7th December 2020 and paid in full at this time. I was given a delivery date of around the 3rd week of January which I was happy with. It arrived on 10th February which given the situation regarding COVID I understood the delay and have no complaints regarding this. The reason I’m giving such a negative review is as follows.... Garagedoorsonline.co.uk is only an agent and the door I ordered was manufactured by Fort Doors aka Wessex Doors aka Castle Doors, I believe this door came from Fort Doors based in Birmingham. My door as all the others in the van were ratchet strapped together with no protective wrapping on each individual door or between each door to protect from transit damage. When my door was removed I could clearly see damage (see images) which I pointed out to the delivery driver, He noted this damage on his paperwork. I didn’t reject the door as I had waited so long for it and had booked the fitter for the following day. I contacted Garage doors online and sent images of the damage, they replied asking what I wished them to do about it. I suggested that as Fort Doors were only a few miles away, they send a representative to my home to repair the problems. Alternatively they could offer a percentage discount from the cost of the door. Garage doors online response was the manufacturer would send me a touch up pen to patch up the scratches etc and I would have to accept the dents. I feel this is unacceptable as I ordered and paid for a new door in perfect condition, not a new door with dents, scratches and a touch up pen. I would not recommend Fort Doors due to the condition of my door, also wouldn’t recommend Garagedoorsonline.co.uk due the the way they have dealt with my complaint and they just expect me to be happy with a NEW door with dents and scratches. I have not been offered any other form of resolution at this time and now considering reporting this to Trading Standards.
