Had a lovely stay here visiting York. The staff were lovely, genuinely welcoming and friendly throughout. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The 10m swimming pool was fab - spotlessly clean and we had it almost to ourselves both times we used it (we did go at an off peak time) - easily accessible from the rooms. Breakfast was delicious. Free parking as we booked over the phone, and could walk to the city centre at a gentle pace in 20 mins. I couldn't fault it and would highly recommend.

Friendly welcome on arrival and throughout our stay. The bed was really comfortable and had no problems sleeping. The room was large and had all the items you need like a tv, kettle, ironing board etc. The rooms are slightly dated but at the same time fell fresh and airy, I would stay here again. My only one small complaint is why are there no plug sockets next to the bed, like must people I need to charge my phone and watch up and like them next to the bed, not a massive problem any means but something I personally like when staying in hotels. Also no usb sockets. 10-15 minute gentle walk in to the town centre. Would I stay here again, more than likely as long have no complaints and the staff were friendly. Breakfast was amazing and the waitress was lovely this morning, nothing was to much trouble. Limited parking available and train station not to far away. They do not do evening meals but are happy for takeaway to be brought back to your room.

It’s a pretty run down hotel. The pool changing rooms are absolutely freezing, even in a heatwave.

Rooms: The rooms are a good size, clean and in generally good maintenance. The only real downside I found was the firm bird which was not very comfy. Nearby activities: There's a lot to do within walking distance. York minster, jorvik viking centre, the city walls the castle museum are all near by. There are lots of restaurants, shops and pubs. The closest pub to the hotel, the Volunteer arms was excellent with plenty of seating, very well kept beer and a great selection of drinks Walkability: A huge amount of activities are within walking distance. A car is not necessary. Food & drinks: There's standard tea and coffee facilities in the rooms. The breakfasts on offer are pretty good value. It's standard stuff, cereal, fruit full English (including a vegetarian and vegan version) etc. The meat version has a good quality sausage and bacon. The vegetarian version has a bubble and squeak style sausage and you get extra tomatoes. The Tom's and mushrooms are fresh and the toast is thick cut.
