A strange shaped bit of land between factory units. Some fairly good paths that go round the majority of the site, but found to suddenly end, or turn into muddy quagmire. Basically it is land that has been mined for coal and clay and then "left for nature"... I guess this was the only thing they could do to it, leave the spoil heaps and let the open mines fill with water. It is quite a big site, I was quite surprised just how far it stretches, but found the caravan park, old folks home and the school (as well as the factory units) got in the way of a decent walk. If you want to explore, there are areas away from the main paths, but found them difficult to get around due to the amount of brambles and thorny trees (and dumped rubbish, tyres and stolen cable) ... Might be better in the Summer, but I doubt it.

Lots of different birds in this nature reserve. Shame some people can't show any respect and litter. Fair play to all the volunteers that do their bit to keep the place clean and tidy.

Dog-friendliness: I regularly walk around with my dog. Please don't be a Muggle and pick up both your litter and dog poo to keep this place as special as it is now. Picnic area: There are many benches to sit and soak up the peaceful moments.
