Avoid at all costs. Unless you want to be ripped off and charged for emails back and forth to not yourself, but someone who has decided to step down from their executor duties and be threatened that if you don’t come up with the thousands of pounds on top of what’s already been paid for their “services” then paperwork will be held. My Grandad had been using this firm for many years but having been diagnosed with dimentia I just don’t think he realised what he was setting himself up for. He always dealt with the same person and that person was not Nick Fentiman whom I’m surprised to learn is the company director. I had tried on several occasions to get through to Nick and was told he would call back. Most likely not interested in dealing with men, rather vulnerable women he can take advantage of. Not once did he return any of my calls and had taken great pleasure by informing the family member left to deal with things the inheritance tax amount to pay and thousands of pounds lost through stocks and shares. Of course this is a way to conduct yourself in your position when clearly it’s obvious someone is already going through a great deal amount of stress not to mention grieving over their lost loved one. He was very much working for the other person and not the person paying eventually who would be left to deal with it all. Had my Grandad have known this to begin with being a very intelligent man he wouldn’t have invested his time or money into this firm especially knowing the person who had initially dealt with him for years, would be none other than Nick F instead as he invested his money wisely. Unprofessional to say the least and disgusting poor service at thousands of pounds. Don’t be fooled by the 5* positive reviews, as a family we received nothing but negative and bad experience by a company we thought we could trust to handle my Grandfather’s case. This has changed my whole perception on solicitors and it’s unfortunate because I’m sure there are many good, honest and reliable firms out there but for the minority mentioned it’s certainly made me think twice in future to do my research and go with a reputable firm that provide fixed costs and not charge you stupid amounts per item i.e. £50 per email which has no benefit to you whatsoever. I must add situations also happened that shouldn’t have before probate was granted. You were informed of this. Isn’t this against the law, did you listen and take action?! I think not. Unfinished case with failure to release important documents and no sympathy or remorse for the family members involved. Unnecessary hefty costs, complete lack of regard and very clearly money grabbers rather than client driven. Educate your children as they could make the mistake of using these fraudsters in future. ***edit*** Since posting this review 6 months ago unsurprisingly it has since been taken down?! Why would this be?? Perhaps it’s down to exposing just what con artists you really are. Shocking!

I used Fentimans in Knowle for an employment law matter and I was very happy with their service. Considered, pragmatic, responsive when I needed them to be and caring for their client. I would definitely recommend and use again if needed.

Awful experience with fentimans. Avoid at all costs. Was charged £1000 more than quoted for a job that was not completed so I had to pay a proper solicitor to finish the job off a further £600. Was fobbed off with lost paper work on several occasions, was spoken to like a piece of trash by Janet the PA. never again, trying to deal with the loss of my father at the same time as dealing with horrendous rude solicitors created unnecessary upset & stress. Again quoted 3-4 months to deal with ended up taking a year???

We exchanged two preliminary inquiry emails and had one 35 minute consultation meeting. After the meeting I read the law, talked to a surveyor and came to the conclusion that Mr Fentiman wouldn't be able to help me due to the current legislation. The fact that Mr Fentiman wasn't aware of the legislation but still invited me to drive an hour to his office for a meeting was a little disappointing. However, my main complaint is that Mr Fentiman is now seeking to charge me not only for the meeting but for 3 of the 4 emails he has sent me - one response to my preliminary email inquiry and two unsolicited follow-up emails after our meeting. Yes, that's right, Mr Fentiman charges for email responses to preliminary email enquiries and if you do not decide to appoint him as your solicitor he will charge you for emails he sends to follow up.
