Recently reopened footway bridge linking both trails alongside the River Stour into Dedham. It's again possible to walk between Dedham & Flatford in a figure of 8 along the riverbanks, using Fen Bridge as the switchover crossing point. John Constable crossed here on his walk from East Bergholt to school in Dedham, & recalled Fen Bridge as his favourite part of the journey. The previous bridge was installed in 1985 & had to be lowered on-site by helicopter because of the restricted access across the surrounding watermeadows. Its replacement was delivered in less spectacular fashion after the drought Summer of 2022, allowed wheeled vehicles on-site. After having been removed for a few years, Fen Bridge was completely replaced, October 2022
