We would NOT recommend FM Restoration to anyone, as we are devastated by the damage they caused to our home. In March this year (2016), we commissioned FM Restoration Ltd to carry out restoration work on the front of our home which dates back to 1870. The work included removing cement render, brickwork and moulding restoration and lime rendering. After 5 weeks of work, when they started applying cement render over the top of the new lime render, despite not having fully removed the old render, it became very clear that they had no idea what they were doing. We had no choice but to stop the work and ask FM Restoration to leave our property immediately, Our home was left in a terrible state, and the extent of the damage was confirmed in a survey we had completed to formally assess the work. The bricks we wanted restored have been left permanently damaged due to the way the render was removed, they even used cement mortar instead of lime as agreed and bricks were replaced in the wrong formation. I could go on but the upshot is the surveyor confirmed that we were right to stop the work as they couldn’t see how they ever expected to finish the job to a satisfactory standard, considering the materials they were using and their poor techniques. They certainly did not demonstrate any of the skills needed to complete a restoration project. After waiting several months and threatening legal action, we did finally get our money back from FM Restoration, We never received an apology or acknowledgment of their substandard work from the owners of the company who never even bothered to pick up the phone and speak to us. We are now facing additional costs to remove and rectify their substandard work, we now have to cover the bricks they have damaged with lime render, changing the look of our home forever and the whole experience has caused us an unbelievable level of stress and upset.
