So me and my girlfriend wanted to have a fun time in the UK. It was our first trip to the UK ever. We got to Gatwick airport Europcar branch after reserving a car online which cost 215£ (but we didn't pay anything yet). When we came to pay, the guy said it costs 712£ - because of insurance. We paid, naively. 10 minutes later I called a different Europcar branch to ask for the price including insurance WITHOUT extra fees, and they told me 230£. This ended up what we had to pay eventually. When I came back to the people at Europcar Gatwick and told them that, they argued with me that it's just their policy, and that USA citizens have a different insurance (I'm not even from the USA), and also THEY CANNOT REFUND ME! After about 3 hours of fighting and waiting on and off, we got refunded, however we wasted an entire day of beautiful vacation, had to spend the night at a hotel in a different airport which was very hard to navigate and plan, and the worst part was that MY CARD GOT BLOCKED BECAUSE IT TOOK THEM AN ENTIRE WEEK TO REFUND THE CREDIT BACK!!! So i couldn't even use my card for the entire trip!!! I'm not even asking for compensation, but wow, nobody even cared about our situation. We had another problem with customer service at the very end where we asked whether we could get money back for the car if we choose to drop it off 12 hours earlier (before drop off time), and they told me on the phone "Yes, Of course". Guess what? Nope, not of course. We have been jerked around with and got misled since the beginning. Waste of time and money. Never going to use Europcar ever again.
