We picked up car at Oxford Europcar on 4/29 and did not have a good experience with the service or the automobile checked out to us. Rental was for 17 days with pickup at Oxford and drop off at LGW. Customer service rep at Oxford’s front desk said that they had low inventory and had to "look for a car". 40 minutes later, a very nice young man pulled up front with a VW station wagon. When we got into car, it was dusty, with numerous dings in the exterior and a crack in windshield at passenger eye-level. We were told that this car was our only option. We photographed car and drove away. Beginning on day 3 of the rental, the check engine, key battery, and low tire pressure alerts began flashing. We stopped 3 times at a gas station to inflate rear left tire. Check engine light and tire pressure alert flicked on and off, but now we received an alert that diesel fluid level was low. We phoned Europcar on Saturday, a week into our trip, to complain about the VW and our fear that we would be stranded in the rural area where we were staying. The car did not have a spare. Because it was a 3-day bank holiday that weekend, we were told that we could not exchange car until Tuesday. The only office open late on Saturday was Bristol Airport. We drove the VW 3 hrs round trip to Bristol, losing a day of our vacation, to swap the car for a Toyota station wagon. The Toyota had been driven more miles than the VW, had numerous dings that we noted and photographed, but at least did not have a cracked windshield. The Bristol Europcar customer service representative told us that the Oxford office probably pulled the car off the auction lot and it should not have been handed out. The Toyota did not give us problems and we returned the car to LGW in mid- May. We have rented from Europcar in the past and the poor experience at Oxford was unusual. If Oxford had been more conscientious about the automobile provided to us for our 17-day rental, I believe these problems and frustrations wouldn't have happened.

Good service and I usually rent from them when in Oxford. This time we lost 1.5 h due to obsolete maps in the car's GPS, which was the only bad thing. Importantly, the GPS took us to a non-existent petrol station close to the Europcar office and we needed to go for a 30 min detour in order to refuel. They should update the maps.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Possibly the worst experience with a company I’ve had. Someone crashed into me and that experience was much smoother than dealing with having a car from this incompetent company!!! Do not recommend

Needed a van for next day. Went online, said available, paid £69 for 2x days - went there early morning on the day - Staff said sorry van not available - similar car size is £400.00 minimum it is a failed for me

The staff at Oxford was very helpful and efficient. But I was charged a week later for what seems to be a parallel booking for which Europcar has previously turned down as the car model was unavailable. The sales rep at Oxford noticed this pseudo-booking and cancelled it, just to be doubly sure, yet I was charged a No-show Fee a week later!
