ITS A CON! I got fooled by the £120 fixed fee and paid postage to send my external drive to them. They do not do "mechanical" recovery and contacted me saying they could EXAMINE my drive for £55 + vat (have not been charged the £120). I chose not to and paid for postage to get it sent back to me. As a sensible person, when my drive first stopped working i contacted a few firms for data recovery. One of the companies predicted that they would not fix it and i would be offered the £55 + vat assessment fee. This is deceptive on behalf of Essential Data Recovery. If they can only provide data recovery done by software, this should be clear. I have taken my drive to shops and basic recovery from software is charged at approximately £40. So £120 is a very inappropriate price for what is provided by them. Finally, most other companies either have free pickup or return. So basically, from an initial attractive fixed fee, i have ended up with no recovery and paid double the amount (postage) that most other companies offer.

What can I say, very disappointed, company was professional, but pointless, none of the work is carried out there, other than the assessment. I was quoted by other companies £450+, no fix no fee and that was out of my budget, then I came across essential data recovery and they quoted me £120+, once they received my drive they assessed the drive they said they had to open it to look at what the issue was and they couldn't get it recognised by a PC (that was the whole point of me calling and giving them this information to avoid all this unnecessary payments for assessments) which cost me £55+ just for the assessment not including the repair. Then they quoted me approx £550+ for repair and recovery, regardless of whether it can be fixed or not, even though the work was not going to be carried out by them. They also refused to take any responsibility for the drive, which makes me wonder, what on earth am I paying for? I ended up paying £80 all in all for sending and receiving my drive as well as them opening and looking at my drive. I stupidly fell for the initial low quote, don't be duped like how I was, save up the money and go with the big companies who actually do the work they quote for. Especially when it comes to recovering family photos, which are priceless.

Sarah, Our NAS server was down and it was impossible to recover the data using windows, in the meanwhile my backup has failed and staff forgotten to inform me. So the recovery of the data was a must. I have Google searched many companies local and national, typed who are offering free assessments, non likes to disclose it and insisted I send the HD to them. When I pushed them for the price they are quoting from £97-£450+vat but was very pushy and eager to get the HD over. Pushy sales is a put off for me. Sarah from Essential Data was honest and upfront and did exactly what she promised, she is very knowledgeable and knew exactly what she is talking about unlike some of the other companies using call centre sales people to get the drive over. I sent the drive by special delivery and could not sleep that night, so stressed. I was delighted when she called me hours after she received my hard drive and said she is confident she can recover the data. I was still bit wary until she started to read some file names, it's saved my bacon I must say! She is genuine young lady and no pushy sales here. The service is offered on table you take it or leave it. That's exactly my way of doing business. A massive thank you to you Sarah. Their Service Worked For Me. And, I'd use their service again if I were so stupid as to repeat the action that got me in the situation. I stupidly wiped a 1tb hard drive and it's back-up drive, thinking I'd only wiped one twice. The wiping of data had only been a basic one and Essential Data Recovery were able to get 100% of the drive's files. The cost for the basic recovery, compared to competitors is very reasonable. The no data no fee is very welcome, though with more complicated tasks, I'm sure a price upwards of £800 isn't unlikely. I suppose it's what getting that data back is worth, that determines wether one can justify that expense.
