This equestrian statue stands in tribute to Field Marshal George Stuart White, an Anglo-Irish soldier of the British army. His is noted for his commands in the Indian Mutiny, Second Anglo-Afghan War, Third Anglo-Burmese War, Mahdist War and Second Boer War. Ending his career as Governor of Gibraltar. This statue is located in the centre of the road in Portland Place and is a life sized depiction of the Field Marshal on his horse, facing south towards Oxford Circus. A bit of usual trivial is that the statue appeared in an exterior shot of Portland Place from Alfred Hitchcock's 1947 American courtroom drama, The Paradine Case.
