A fantastic environment to learn and develop your character and martial sense through Aikido. Despite only having trained for a few months so far, the discoveries I've made regarding my own body and mindset have been extremely valuable.

As a consultant surgeon interested in exploring martial ways I could not afford to participate in confrontational and possibly damaging classes elsewhere. Choosing this particular Dojo and this particular teacher – Mooney Sensei with 35 years of experience and very healthy approach to himself and to the world – was undoubtfully one of the best decisions in my life. At the moment Aikido is an important part of my daily routine and allows me to maintain both physical and emotional well-being. Believing in gradual and steady rather than rapid and forceful progress I really enjoy (so my wife does!) observing noticeable changes in my body but also in my approach to professional and personal dilemmas. Practice of the Aikido – properly demanding at times but never aiming for a harm - teaches harmony and develop useful self-awareness without patronising and breaking organism into pieces. If you are looking for a place that would allow you to work on both: your body and your mind with a bunch of very friendly, helpful and dedicated people I heartfully recommend Ei Mei Kan.

Aikido ? Self defense ? There are two reasons why you should not train here. If you wish to learn self defence as the poster outside claims. You are wasting your time. Let me say again. If you are looking to learn self defence. Dont waste your time with either aikido or this dojo. Aikido is a very very technical martial art that takes many years to master. It involves trying to take the balance of opponents. Something that only very highly skilled akido teachers can do. If you have 20 yrs to aquire a skill based on 16th century sword movements that in an attack today would not be relevant, that may or may not save you with some japanese philosophy thrown in. Then this may be the martial art for you. Aikido does not pressure test its techniques so you have no personal gauge on whether your technique will work. Aikido is in turmoil right now because of this. At this dojo you will spend a lot of time kneeling. The Japanese way. Will it build character? Probably. Will it help you in a fight. No. If you wish to learn self defence. Dont try to learn akido. And if youre intent on learning aikido. I wouldn't learn it here.

looking at the various reviews of this place. It appears they are all posted at the same time. i would suggest they have been told to write reviews. I could descibe this place in many ways but friendly certainly isnt one of them. This generally is one of the more unfriendly places to train . Think carefully before coming here

Friendly aikido dojo, following Chiba Sensei's lineage. Quality of teaching and sense of community are both excellent. Great for beginners and for more or less advanced practitioners.
