I had the fortune to have both a rhubarb & coconut and a fig & honey tart from the market stall last week and my word, socks well and truly blown off. Excellent balance and use of interesting flavours; if you can make me think that rhubarb is a useable ingredient then you're a miracle worker and this is nothing short. Only wary of posting a review because I don't want everyone else to beat me to the next market!

Every tart, cake, and cookie is as mouth-wateringly delicious and perfectly textured as it is extravagantly beautiful. At a glance, one may think the eyes are the winner with such immaculate attention to detail, but the taste buds will rarely experience treats crafted with this much love and seasonal fruits. If you have guests in town and do not treat them to Shutishuti, they have not experienced the best York has on offer.

I will be honest, I trade next to Ezster every Saturday at Tang Hall so I can see how you may feel this is biased. That being said, her patisserie is second to none and works with local producers and forages a lot of the ingredients herself. It is common to see me consuming at least 2/3 tarts/cakes each week. The Medovik cake is probably my favourite of the lot but the menu changes for seasonality so you will always have a reason to go back to her.

I realise this is going to sound like an exaggeration, but this pastry is hands down the best pastry I have ever tasted. I have sampled just about everything since first going to the Tang Hall Food Market about a year ago. The pear tart, the orange almond cake (photo below), and the carrot halva are among my favourites, but honestly everything is amazing. Eszter is meticulous when it comes to the combination of flavours and textures.

Just been to the Tang Hall Community Centre where they have a weekly Food Circle Market. I was attracted by the delightful display for cakes and tarts! I brought home the crème brûlée tart with saffron/cardamom and a carrot hulva! My, it was delicious!! The sweet pastry was crisp and the crème brûlée was delicious!! The hulva just added another dimension to the flavour!! Now I wished I brought 2!! I also got a couple of mini cakes; buckwheat, beetroot and coconut cake; and an orange and ‘something else’ cake. They were also lovely!! Can’t wait to return and sample the other tarts on selection!!
