This is an honest account of my experience at Eastcott. Reception staff are great, getting an appointment is usually straight forward and easy and they’re all very nice friendly. Our vet Steph was really lovely. She genuinely cared for our Ruby and had a lovely bedside manner. We were very happy with Steph as Ruby’s vet. The week before Ruby passed Eastcott charged £86 for medication that cost £15 online. I complained and asked for a breakdown of their mark up but was quoted a load of flannel about stocking costs. I repeated my request for mark up details so I could see if I was being ripped off and nothing was provided other than more flannel. The next week we had to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanise It took 55 minutes to euthanise her. I accept Ruby was distressed but nevertheless it still took a traumatic 55 minutes. This was the most traumatic 55 minutes of my life and while we we’re were in floods of tears in the consultation room there was some sort of shift change going on in the corridor behind the consultation room and the staff were chatting and laughing out loud like they were at some sort of social function. My wife and I left with Ruby absolutely crushed. We felt like we had really let Ruby down at the end. We wanted to have her euthanised at home in a peaceful fashion but Eastcott didn’t have anyone they could send out. The last moments of our beautiful Ruby’s life are now be a mental scare. Just thinking about it makes me cry.

Horrific! First quoted £2 - £2.5k for tests initially, this went up by another £500 in the next breath. After stressing that my dog needs careful handling due to a past experience with a different vet I was assured that they would use a mild sedation to keep him calm during one test. I was then called 3 hrs later to say they couldn’t do the test as he got so stressed he collapsed, turned blue and they had to do an emergency intubation. Not only was I STILL CHARGED for the test they couldn’t do, it was admitted sedation wasn’t given until after they traumatised my dog AND due to the stress they didn’t think they could bring him out of GA alive and one of the suggestions was he was put to sleep!!!!! I had to insist on being there to help bring round my own dog to keep him calm. My dog was also branded as aggressive due to him showing his dislike of his treatment by the staff. I am a canine behaviourist and work with aggressive dogs, any animal if not treated with respect will show you with their own behaviour they are not happy. I will not be returning for his check up in 4 weeks time for more trauma. Absolutely disgraceful treatment of a dog that they were warned needed careful handling. I am now £5,600 lighter and paid for a test that was never carried out and nearly lost my dog due to their negligence.
