The process when a loved one passes away at East Surrey Hospital is a nightmare. The Doctor, probably earning over £120k and demands a pay rise, enters the wrong cause of death on the report. This then causes a huge delay, especially when it’s a ‘Faith Funeral’ The Coroners, after 2 weeks provide the release papers to the funeral directors, they attend the next morning to collect the deceased family member, only to be rejected by the Mortuary! The whole system is broken. It adds more pain and grief to families going through all this stress. When you call up certain departments, it’s always Voicemail.

I don’t normally write reviews for things like hospitals but really felt I had to for this place. I presented to A&E during a mental health crisis. I chose to go here instead of my local hospital where the care has been terrible. The receptionist was so lovely to me while booking me in, and the triage nurse was lovely too. I waited on a general ward for a week before a psych bed came up but they kept me safe and comfortable in the CDU. every single member of staff from the doctors to the cleaners that I spoke to or had any dealing with were kind, compassionate, caring and just wonderful. I became upset a few times and the staff calmed me down in a kind and effective way. I just can’t rate it highly enough. I was at a very low point and they did an excellent job of keeping me safe and reassuring me while I waited for a psych space. They communicated with me fully around my care and the plans in place. It’s sad that so many mental health patients end up in general beds for weeks due to the back log, and it’s challenging being a mental health patient stuck on a general ward but the staff at this hospital made it as comfortable and pleasant as it possibly could have been Thank you so much to both A&E and CDU staff here, you are AMAZING
