  Sandy and Lynn are superb at managing the dogs in their care, and also at taking care to match dogs with appropriate owners. We have now had 4 dogs from them, each of which has fitted perfectly into our family. Big Thanks to you both.

  East Midlands dog rescue is an amazing place with fantastic caring volunteers. We cannot rate them highly enough. They visited our house before we could foster a dog. Their knowledge is amazing and they really care for all of the dogs. We would recommend this wonderful charity to anyone looking for a dog. A*******.

  This place clearly has favouritism towards those who don’t work and/or retired. I work from home and currently have a dog, I’ve also grown up with rescue dogs, so yes while I work, I’m home all day with my current dog, but can’t attend the strict Wednesday open morning easily. Getting through to this place is impossible on all numbers, and you can’t email either as they ignore this because you MUST come to an open morning. I have called for 2 weeks now about a little girl who I’d love to adopt, I can spend time with her all day, I can afford everything she needs, I have experience and I have a lot of love to give another dog. I barely ever get through, and I was told last week that she was still available and they would call me back, because she just had surgery and wouldn’t be up to a visit, which is fine. No one called me back however, and when I finally got through today I was told they are doing a home visit next week so she was no longer available. Before I could say anything they said ‘thank you’ and put the phone down. There is clearly an issue here, and it seems age and work plays a huge factor. I understand the ideal owner is someone who doesn’t leave their dog all day alone, but I made it very clear from the start that I am home all day, everyday. I can only assume my age played a part in this also and it’s a shame because there’s so many of us who can offer these dogs a loving home, but the volunteers here, or whoever runs it, clearly doesn’t want that.

  We went to view a dog. We booked a private viewing on Sunday and was told to bring our dog. Which is we did, he is a bit older (18) so we were aware of the risk of a younger dog, however our dog has always grown up with another dog as our second dog recently passed away (15) our dog has never been bothered by other dogs, our other dog was very active and he just wasn’t bothered . So we were looking for another dog. The viewing on Sunday went great, we were told we would hear back before Friday for a garden visit. Our dog and the rescue dog got along perfectly. We were so excited as it seemed like all good news, nothing was said to make us beileve we wouldn’t get the dog. Come friday, we had had nothing. We left voicemails and we rang, when they finally answered it was very rude. They were concerned about our dog age, which is understandable but they never spoke to us about our dog and what he’s like at home. They automatically dismissed us without a simple conversation. It seems that if your face fits, you’ll be accepted. It also seems if you know them already you are guaranteed a dog. We went back to a open morning on the Wednesday to view more dogs, we found three we loved and filled in a form. However, we tried to speak about our dog and see if we were wasting time adopting and yet again the lady was rude and walked away mid conversation. It seemed to be she was letting her friends into the kennels to see the dogs and pet them, whilst we didn’t have that opportunity. We filled in a form and that was it. So we tried ringing to book a private viewing for the upcoming Sunday, yet again rude when I rang. Straight away I was told no, for three dogs. This is before she got any information off me. She said she was doing a home visit for a dog she just uploaded on Monday!! But on the website it says you have to go to an open morning or private viewing first for a home check. I feels like a diss on us as dog owners. We have an 18 year old dog, and a recently passed 15 year old dog. We are amazing dog owners and show love to dogs like no other. We would be well suited, but it seems out face doesn’t fit their picture. We just wanted a chance, and we wanted to rescue a dog but we aren’t even allowed the opportunity. It’s such a shame. They need to sort out their communications system, we thought we had a dog from there as there we no indication of bad news, only good. Yet, we weren’t suitable and with no valid reason why. Disappointed to say the least.

  23/04/23 I have just edited this review because I feel I rushed in with the positive too soon. Although I stand by what I said in the review below, I have now dropped 2 stars because I feel they do judge you on first appearance. I've now read many reviews and have had lots of feedback from friend that have told me not to bother again because it's heartbreaking getting turned down over and over. We didn't get picked and they didn't answer our emails at all. Maybe it's because we are big people. Maybe it was because I look like a very confident person and it is intimidating. They say they don't have time to answer all people because they are looking after the dogs. This is understandable but what they do need to think about is maybe a generic email that tells people they weren't successful, this would stop all the heartache and it does hurt! 13/04/13 We visited East Midlands dog rescue yesterday because we want to adopt a new dog to be a brother or a sister to Ozwald our small terrier mix. Ozwald came to us because our very good friend Sam the Leicester dog warden found him and thought we were right for him. We were looking for a brother or sister for our 9-year-old staffy Simney, unfortunately we lost Simney in January to cancer and now Oswald and us are looking for a new brother or sister. When we first came into East Midlands dog rescue we saw a little girl called Sienna, she made me cry, she looked so scared but after seeing all the other dogs and seeing how happy they were, some quite vocal 😄 we realized what beautiful place this was and how happy they were, how clean this place was and how much love these people are giving to those dogs. Before we left the rescue center I went back to look at Sienna after hearing one of the members of staff saying that some of the dogs will be scared because of all the visitors, she was indeed correct because now Sienna was very happy and enjoying what she now knew was friendly faces and friendly hands. In my entire 56 years on this Earth we've always had rescue dogs. Two have been from local families that were struggling through no fault of their own. One or two was because we felt they needed us, they were mistreated and they have all stayed with us happily until death do us part. But this is the first time I've been to a rehoming center since I was a child and that was the RSPCA. The long short of it is that on visiting East Midlands dog rescue we had really good vibes. We could see how happy those dogs were. We think the staff are doing an amazing job keeping them all safe. Any dog waiting for their forever home would be very lucky to be in this place. We have filled in a form to adopt, it's not Sienna though, and hopefully we'll be chosen so please everybody give us good luck wishes and well done East Midlands dog rescue keep it going You're all wonderful!
