When you buy a moped you expect a willingness to resolve any issues. That's unfortunately not what you get with E-Rider LTD. I bought what I thought was a brand new moped that was fit for purpose and road worthy. I even paid £95 extra to have the moped assembled, inspected and delivered. What transpired is that I received a moped that was a year old before I bought it, badly assembled with a wobbling rear wheel, a defective wiring loom that had the headlight in full beam continuously, leaking front forks, loose seat, missing fittings, loose throttle assembly, bad rusty welds on the swing arm with the inability to get up slopes safely that were well within quoted specifications and a range of only 7½ miles despite the range being quoted as 43 miles on a charge. An independent inspection that I paid £180 for backs up everything I have said and additionally concluded that no safety or PDI checks were carried out prior to dispatch. The initial solutions involved being sent a replacement charger, which didn't cure the range and climbing problems and then a replacement battery which again did nothing. Contacting them again I was told to only write to them and stop contacting them by email. It has subsequently been discovered that all mail to their company's mailing address at the virtual office in London gets binned except mail from HMRC or Companies House. In my case I had to lodge a simple procedure in order for me to get most of my money back, which was dragged out unnecessarily by E-Rider LTD for nine months. Two mediation sessions were attempted. First time E-Rider LTD decided to notify the mediation service that they were going to be out of the country at short notice for an initially undisclosed period of time. Second time things got nowhere. In fact E-Rider LTD tried to use the fact that I still had their battery and charger is a point of dispute in order to have the case thrown out, unfortunately email correspondence revealed otherwise. It got to the point of a case management hearing where each side was to prove their side of the argument, in that Ken's argument that there was nothing wrong with the moped, and additionally Ken was to appear either by representative, video link or in person. I won by default as E-Rider ltd failed to appear and was awarded £1524 in compensation. I sold the moped for £50 spares or repair in order to recoup the money deducted that I could immediately recover and used the money to send the charger and battery back to his registered address in London. Despite loosing, not appealing or petitioning to have the case reheard within the four weeks no payment was forthcoming. I had to serve a statuary debt notice in order to get paid, even then it took a lot of time, effort and patience to get through to E-Rider LTD, Ken especially that a statutory debt notice is settled on the creditors terms not the debtors. Ken sent me £823 to settle with the agreement I would get the moped back going as far as booking a courier to pick it up without agreement. In the end it took the extreme measure of me to start in motion the process of petitioning the courts to wind up his business and for me to email a picture of the first page of the winding up petition by email for things to be taken seriously enough to want to try and settle. In fact Tim the other director wanted me to sign an agreement that with a full payment the matter is fully settled before Ken would pay. To get this settled I had to get on the 5.29am train from Glasgow central to London Euston having paid £143 return and impose a deadline before I was paid. I was eventually paid at 9.57 am just as I had left Crewe station with no text message or email to say sorry. To date I am still out of pocket for my train fare. In all I would suggest anyone considering buying an electric bike or moped look elsewhere otherwise you could face the same grief I did.
