    1860 Cafe at Green Lane, next to River side. Excellent - ordered cheese and onion toastie. Best toastie I have ever had. Spoilt me from ordering toastie from anywhere else. Staff friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.

    Nice front- of-house people, lovely fairly priced food & drink, however….. Ridiculous policy re. parking fines! The relatively recently installed dreaded ubiquitous car ANPR system clocks you in for max. 1.5 hrs. We missed the ‘Sign in as you order food’ iPad, so sitting awaiting the arrival of friends, chatting and perusing the menu taking well over half an hour, the whole food experience took as long as a leisurely scull on the river, we had to quickly eat and get out of there. Not a great experience. I understand the need to retain the parking for customers rather than any potential ‘free Parkers’ from the city, but really? 1/10 for implementing a very unfriendly approach to what is likely a minor potential issue. Re-think please? We’ll take our £19 elsewhere for our next rendezvous. Their loss; but consider their parking fine income 😕. Another nail in the almost buried Durham car parking coffin.
