As an out of towner from Norfolk, I am always up for trying a pie or pasty from different regions. The Steak and Stilton here was incredible, full of filling and the cheese meat combination was so delicious.. The food counter looked amazing too. Great service and fantastic food. I bought hot lunches here two or three times a week towards the end of 2022. There are plenty of options available, but due to the weather I would typically opt for cottage pie, chilli or stew. If you want fried bacon and sauteed potatoes, or chicken nuggets, or ribs, those options are there... they're just not for me. Positives - lovely staff, clean premises, plenty of people working, fair pricing. Negatives - the quality varies. It's really hit and miss. Sometimes the rice is nice, other times it's so soggy you could wring it out. The meat can be wonderful in the stews, or every piece you chew is gristly. The mince in the chilli can be full of flavour, or dry and crunchy with bits of bone. The thing that annoyed me the most, and ultimately stopped me going there, was portion size. Portions are always okay when they use the cardboard cups (stews etc), as it's clear they need to fill it to the top. It's different when they use those yellow styrofoam containers. Your portion will vary between one serving spoon of rice or three, and it's the same for the chilli / curry that goes over the top. It's a similar situation for the slice size of the cottage pie. As a minor negative it should also be noted that the staff have a tendency to leave you standing waiting to be served while they all walk around behind the counter doing their own thing... or they're just having a chat about a member of staff / recent customer.
