One of my double garage door would not open which wasn't an immediate problem as I could still access it. I noticed that the spring had snapped at the end. So I rang Maintenance Doors it (states Dunmow on their website, although it isn't)They have since change their name to Integrate in Bishops Stortford. I spoke with Violet on the Thursday who said "we can't come out for sometime". As this was not urgent I asked her when could they come out and she the following Tuesday morning !! Maybe that should have warned me as to the calibre of company I was dealing with. So it was agreed that they would call and give me a quote. A person came and inspected, said "you need a new spring" measured it and after 5 minutes total he left. I then received a quote for £180 which seemed fair. Violet said she would send it.I emailed back and advised them to proceed. A week later I rang to find out if they had a repair date and violet told me that they hadn't as they hadn't sent an invoice yet. I said I had received it and sent an email back asking her to proceed. You would have thought at the point of sending approval she would have emailed back stating that this is not an invoice for the job but for the quotation. But she didn't. A couple of hours later I got a call from the company advising me that the actual repair would be a massive £355 to replace a spring ! and was advised that the invoice for £180 was to give the quotation !! I told him in no uncertain terms that there was no way I would pay any company to quote for a job, let alone pay another £355 to replace a spring. This company seem to have no scruples and are totally unprofessional and I would suggest you avoid them. I then called an old school, one man company called AV Walker of Haverhill who came within half an hour stripped it down and repair it ( no spring needed ) Charge £135 for the 2 hours he was here.
