FAQ

What are the requirements for donating blood and how often can one donate?

To donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health. You can donate blood every 56 days, which allows your body time to replenish the blood supply.

What steps do you take to ensure the safety and quality of the blood supply?

We take a number of steps to ensure the safety and quality of the blood supply. We thoroughly screen all potential donors to make sure they are healthy and eligible to donate. We also test all donated blood for infectious diseases, including HIV and hepatitis. Additionally, we follow strict protocols for handling and storing blood to ensure that it remains safe and effective for transfusion.

Are there any fees associated with blood donations or receiving blood products?

There are no fees associated with donating blood. However, there may be fees associated with receiving blood products, depending on your location and insurance coverage. We work with hospitals and other healthcare providers to make sure that blood products are available to those who need them, regardless of their ability to pay.

How do you handle and respond to adverse reactions or complications from blood transfusions?

While adverse reactions to blood transfusions are rare, we take them very seriously. If a patient experiences an adverse reaction, we work with their healthcare provider to determine the cause and provide appropriate treatment. We also conduct a thorough investigation to determine if any changes need to be made to our protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.

How does your charity ensure transparency and accountability in its operations?

We take transparency and accountability very seriously at DKMS. We undergo regular audits to ensure that we are following best practices and adhering to all relevant regulations. We also publish an annual report that provides detailed information about our operations, finances, and impact. Additionally, we are committed to engaging with our donors, supporters, and partners in an open and honest way, and we welcome feedback and questions about our work.

Go to another blood cancer charity. Never sent out a kit. Then mismanaged my details and put me down as weighing 6st which apart from being ridiculous is fraudulent .. Couldnt or wouldnt explain any of the things I asked in relation to the actual functionality of the charity and I was left with the feeling this was an earner for some executives and probably operating more for the business than the actual remit..

All of my (admittedly, limited) dealings with DKMS has been spot-on, so five stars from me.
