FAQ

What is the temple's history and tradition?

Our Diamond Way Buddhist Meditation Group was founded in the 1970s by Lama Ole Nydahl and his wife Hannah Nydahl. Our tradition follows the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, which dates back over 900 years. We have centers and groups in over 40 countries worldwide, and our teachings emphasize meditation as a means to develop inner peace and wisdom.

What kind of practices and rituals take place at the temple?

Our practices and rituals center around meditation, which is the core of our spiritual practice. We offer regular meditation sessions, as well as teachings on Buddhist philosophy and methods for developing mindfulness and compassion. We also offer empowerments, which are rituals that connect us with a particular aspect of the Buddha's qualities and help us to develop those qualities within ourselves.

Are there any requirements for visitors or attendees?

No, there are no specific requirements for visitors or attendees. We welcome people of all backgrounds and faiths to come and learn about Buddhism and meditation. We do ask that visitors respect our temple and our practices, and follow any guidelines that are given during their visit.

How does the temple contribute to the local community or society at large?

We contribute to our local community and society at large by offering a space for people to come and develop their inner peace and wisdom. We also organize events and activities that promote interfaith dialogue and understanding, and support charitable causes both locally and globally.

How can individuals get involved or become members of the temple?

Individuals can get involved by attending our meditation sessions and teachings, and by participating in our events and activities. We also offer courses and retreats for those who wish to deepen their practice. Becoming a member of our group is a personal choice, and involves taking refuge vows, which are a commitment to follow the Buddhist path and develop one's practice. Interested individuals can speak with one of our senior students to learn more about becoming a member.

Great place for those interested in authentic Buddhist meditation and teachings. It's a lay centre run by idealistic volunteers. One can get an introduction to Buddhist philosophy, participate in hands on meditation classes as well as listen to longer, detailed lectures given by local and international travelling buddhist teachers. No booking or special uniforms required. Excellent place to check whether Buddhism is one's cup of tea.
