Where Destination Events went wrong: They promised our group the Park Plaza Hotel and a month before the trip they switched our group to the Holiday Inn. Parents had already booked extra nights as had family members coming into town, making it very inconvienient. When parents inquired, they were ignored. This was a case of bait and switch. We had over 150 people registered to go, so their excuse of "We did not have enough people" doesn't hold true. By doing this, the company was able to save $600.00 per student and could pocket the $45,000 by making the switch. In addition, the website was often down making it difficult for parents to pay. Where is the contract? Where is the transparency? Why do parents not have a contract in their hands knowing what they are paying for? Destination Events also hires outside freelance employees to help organize tours, making it easier to shift the blame. Room numbers and check in was not streamlined either. The company needed to have room numbers attached to names ahead of time, but did not. This made the check in process more disorganized. When our group arrived 4 hours late at Heathrow, thier busses were not waiting for them at the airport, so our group waited 2 more hours for busses to show up. That is simply unacceptable. You knew they would be 4 hours late as the flight is 10 hours long. On a positive note, The Blue Badge Guides and coaches made the trip and the parade and party for the kids was wonderful. I know what goes into student travel as I have done this for 20 years and I would not travel with them again.
