Absolutely appalling facilities: Lack of propper PPE. Always cold in winter or sweltering hot in summer. Lack of good up to date equipment. Slow Unreliable computer and Internet system. Smashed door, broken window sliders, car park lines difficult to see ,car park sign knocked over more than a year ago and still not rebuilt (rubble just sat there for months and months only recently cleaned up, not a very good first impression). Old machines, rarely maintained. Lack of space, equipment and consumables for electrical area. Welding area with old tacky PPE (Ruined welding gloves, dirty welding goggles and masks). Lack of staff for certain pathways and when they find someone good enough, they struggle to keep that person employed. CEO seen bringing their pet into the building. Smoking area dirty unkempt and right under a classroom window. Waste chemical/oil barrels seen thrown outside hidden behind the building. COVID-19 restrictions: Closing all but one toilet during the pandemic which wasn't cleaned down after every use, this just meant more people were touching one door handle and using one toilet making it more likely for more people to be exposed to covid and also causing backlogs of apprentices losing out on precious learning time waiting to use the toilet. Closing down almost every other week because of one case on one day of the week affecting apprentice training. Lack of staff to learner communication during lock downs. Positives: The only decent thing about this training centre is that some of the staff do genuinely care about the apprentices and will help throughout the apprenticeship.

Listening to the feedback from so many businesses at the recent awards, praising the apprentices’ professionalism & contribution, it is clear that the Derwent Training team at every stage is focused on providing the highest quality training, support & guidance. We are so lucky to have this provision in our region & as Chair of the LEP Business Board I’m now excited to see the impact of their new Leadership development work too.
