Stayed here this week for an overnight golf break (2 rounds of golf, with dinner and breakfast). The hotel facilities are very good and the staff are friendly and couldn't be more helpful. For dinner I had the Brisket Bon Bons to start; I had high expectations (especially at £11 for a starter) but was left disappointed, whilst they tasted ok there wasn't much brisket, but more a few strands of beef per 'bon bon', with the rest being mainly potato (or something similar). For the price I was expecting proper chunks of brisket. For the main I had one of the pizzas (with a member of staff passing on my request to add chicken as a topping). The pizza was very good, with a light and crispy base, and fresh and flavoursome toppings. As for the golf, the course is challenging and often quite unforgiving, even just a few yards off the fairway and you can end up being in fairly tall thick grass which is tough to play out from. I know this is regarded as a popular golf club in the area (referring to the website), but for those on golf breaks, whilst you do want a challenge, this course is more than that (and feels like a bit of a 'slog' at times), and I'd be surprised if anyone visiting manages to play to their handicap. We spoke to a few others (also visiting on golf breaks) during the rounds and later at the bar and every one said they'd be very unlikely to re-visit because of the reasons mentioned above.

Only used the Hotel for Coronation tea. Very nice. Service OK. Only six in the room, not well supported but at £50 a pop not everyone's cup of tea. Thanks to our Daughter and husband for the lovely

2 night stay, booked through Secret Escapes. DBB great value. Food was first class, Good selection. Breakfast was amazing so many choices. Bar area good with live sports. Room was like a mini suite, although advertised as a room with a view. Very busy golf course.

I would actually give this hotel 3.5 stars if it allowed. This hotel could be brilliant but it is lacking in areas that unfortunately bring it down. The grounds and the manor house are beautiful, there is a lovely outdoor play area for children, walking routes and of course the golf course. The hotels split into the manor house and the "newer" wokefield place. We stayed in the wokefield place on a 2 night stay with breakfast. The room was a good size and the bed comfortable but the bathroom had some minor details where it lacked ( tiles missing on the floor, tap was caked in limescale, skirting board dirty). Getting to our hotel room with a pram was very impractical, stairs everywhere with no accessible lift access ?! The lobby area is beautiful and clearly a lot of money has gone into it recently and the reception staff were great. We ate at the View restaurant the first night but found the service to be slow and all the young waiting staff unfortunately were not well trained . They didn't know what drinks were available, couldn't tell you much about the menu and didn't check on us. The food took ages to come but when it did arrive it was all very tasty. Overall it was expensive for a lack lustre experience. We had breakfast in the same area the next day which was buffet style. The selection is large with continental and cooked however the fruit juices are awful as they aren't proper juice and all had weird after taste! The pastries were tasty as was the coffee. The cooked breakfast was ok, it had a good selection but everything was always warm but not hot and the beans especially were very runny. Lastly the layout was confusing having the yoghurts and fruit and continental bits all over the place. During our stay we used the swimming pool which again needs some love. The pool is large and has a good temperature and there is a sauna. There looks like there might have been a jacuzzi at one point but this has gone and the changing rooms are overly damp and the space is not user friendly. The whole fitness area felt like it needed updating. Finally we used Benedict's bar this is a lovely area with a good selection of drinks and food but it gets very busy and loud and isn't big enough. Overall I'd stay again if I needed somewhere in the area or was there to golf but I wouldn't go out of my way to return.
